Airodump-ng is a part of aircrack-ng suite of tools. It is used for wireless packet capture of raw 802.11 frames. Airodump-ng is generally used as a first step in WEP cracking process. With airodump-ng one can get the information about the Access Points (APs) in range, the channels on which they are operating, signal strength, associated clients and so on. Airodump-ng also provides the option to save the trace file in pcap format.
